Urban Legend of Internet
Thanks to people who enjoy sharing incredible tales found online, urban legends have
made themselves at home on the Internet. These false stories have been passed along through
e-mails so many times that people believe they’re actually true.
One legend claims a boy fell asleep with candy near his head and had hungry ants crawl
into his ear and go through his brain to get to the treat. Besides sounding crazy, this is
scientifically impossible. Even if ants desired to get in one’s ear, the eardrum would keep
them from directly entering the brain. Another urban legend claims drinking soda dissolves
one’s teeth because the drink contains acid. The legend further states that if you place a tooth
in a glass of soda, it will completely disappear overnight. The fact is there isn’t enough acid
in soda to do that.
Some people spending too much time online may believe all information on the Internet
is true. In reality, many stories are just urban legends. So closely examine what you read
before trusting it.
